Learn To Make Great Rum Punch

Main Tab Group

Description

When it comes to rum punch I am a purist. Fruit juice and rum in my opinion is not proper rum punch. The traditional recipe is

One of sour i.e. one part lime juice

Two of sweet i.e. two parts syrup

Three of rum i.e. three parts rum

Four of weak i.e. four parts water

I would recommend buying limes and squeezing them and boiling sugar and water (equal measures) to make syrup. I would also recommed brown rum as opposed to white rum, but it isn't a deal breaker if you use white rum. If you are brave you can forget the weak (water) but be careful as even with the water this is a very potent mix.

To finish off the rum punch, pour into a glass with ice, and add a few dashes of Angostura bitters and some ground nutmeg.
